Why astrology?
Why would anyone want to study astrology as a serious discipline, or even learn about it as a hobby? Why would anyone pay to see a professional astrologer?
by Debbie Harding
We all struggle to fulfill our own individual needs and potentials while at the same time adapting to the demands of the environment in which we must survive. In astrology, the planets in a birth horoscope, modified by the signs they occupy at the time of birth, represent an individual’s inner needs and aspirations. The Sun is the basic life energy we draw upon to live; the Moon shows the primary emotional need that drives behavior; and the remaining planets describe subsidiary needs: how we need to think, relate, apply our energy, seek reward, focus ambition, and express our individuality, creativity, and personal power. By analyzing the positions of the planets in the wheel of houses and the geometric relationships between them, we can relate those needs to areas of experience in our lives and to the developmental pressures we face as we cultivate a sense of self and learn to relate to and work with others within our family and society. Studying all of these relationships and how they change over time gives us valuable insight into the process of living.
While the study of astrology is immensely rewarding, it is an extraordinarily broad and complex field. A professional astrologer, trained in the complexities of the symbolisms and their applications to practical life situations, can share a meaningful discussion with you about your life development and whatever current challenges you might be facing. A look at the time period ahead can identify times of opportunity and challenge and help plan strategy for continued personal growth. A good astrologer can help with personal problems, work and vocational issues, relationship concerns, financial planning, and a variety of other practical aspects of daily living. Astrologer and client together bring the horoscope to life.
Astrology has evolved over time, as it must because of the changing world in which we live. Modern astrology is no longer about fatalistic prediction. It has become a powerful resource for self-understanding and personal enrichment. What could be more worthy of serious study, more rewarding as a career, and more relevant to our daily lives? That’s why astrology is such an important field of study.
