What an Astrologer can & cannot do
by Carole A. Ray, CHt
Astrology has its specialized areas of study. Individual astrologers are stronger in some specialties than in others.

Most clients that we see are looking for a basic natal chart reading that deals with 6-month or 1-year cycles. They want, as we all do, to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Astrology, however, does not provide the means to do that -- regardless of what the fabled "fortune-teller" may advise. One's chart is a personal life map, as individual as a fingerprint.
It reveals patterns of probability, but says nothing about the choices you make. To use a physical analogy (instructive if not quite accurate) -- suppose you made your way through a forest, to find your path blocked by a torrential river. This represents a field of probability: You can plunge in (and maybe drown): you can follow along the bank and look for a safe crossing: you can build a raft and let the current take you downstream: you can wait until the river subsides, and then wade across; you can turn around and go back through the forest; you can change your destination.
Your life does not belong to astrology. It belongs to you. Your astrologer is helpful in predicting the "river's" condition -- the likelihood of a safe crossing downstream or upstream, what materials are available to build your raft, how soon the river may subside, etc. In other words, astrology is a tool (among others) that you can use to make choices. But it cannot choose for you.
